Questions about rulee.in
Plans, prices, moving in, and what happens to your data. Still have a question? Write to support@rulee.in.
Is Rulee really free?
Yes. The Free plan is free forever, no trial period, no credit card. You get 2 users, 10 clients, and the core of the product: tasks with your own workflow, the compliance calendar, clients, time logs, attendance and leave, the registers (DSC, UDIN, licences and documents), thirteen reports, and Aria for help inside the app. Paid plans (Basic, Plus, Pro) come with 3 weeks free. No card needed.
What makes the plans different?
Plans differ by number of users and clients and which modules are included. Free (2 users, 10 clients) covers tasks, compliance, clients, time, attendance and leave, the registers and the reports. Basic (7 users, 100 clients) adds GST invoicing with UPI Scan to pay, payments with TDS settlement and receipts, proforma invoices, the invoice register and CSV export, the fees review, proposals and engagement letters, standard-wording letters, and practice insights without AI. Plus (15 users, 250 clients) adds GST reconciliation with the turnover bridge, the client newsletter, and payroll. Pro (50 users, 1000 clients) adds the credential vault, GST notice tracking, GSTR-1 send and file (beta), the TallyPrime and Zoho Books export (beta), the AI suite (the health score summary, Ask AI, morning brief, document reading, AI drafting), Connect Claude, and new features first, in beta. Enterprise is unlimited with custom onboarding.
Does Rulee work for CS firms as well as CA firms?
Yes. Set your practice type to CA, CS or Other in Settings and the compliance templates and defaults adapt. CA firms get GST, TDS, ITR, payroll and audit templates; CS firms get ROC / MCA filings such as MGT-7, AOC-4, DIR-3 KYC, LLP-11 and LLP-8, a DSC register with token custody, and a certified board resolution among the standard letters.
Can staff see client passwords?
Only while they hold that client’s task, and only what they need. Credentials in the vault are encrypted in your browser with the firm’s passphrase, so Rulee itself can never read them. A revealed password hides after 30 seconds, every reveal and copy is logged, and a partner can mark any credential Restricted so it opens for full-access roles only. Included from the Pro plan.
What is GST Reconciliation?
Two reconciliations. Purchases: a client’s purchase-register input tax credit against their GSTR-2B, flagging matched, mismatched and missing entries. Sales: the sales register against the filed GSTR-1s for a financial year, bucketing what is in the books but not filed (with the days left in the s.37(3) window), what was reported late for GSTR-9 Tables 10 and 11, and what was filed but not booked. The turnover bridge working paper, saved per client per year with a sign-off, answers an AIS or e-Campaign turnover query. Everything exports as one Excel working paper. Included from the Plus plan.
Does it work with Tally?
Yes, in both directions, by file. Import clients from a TallyPrime XML export of Sundry Debtors, and load a Tally columnar sales register into the GST reconciliation. On Pro, in beta while it is tested with firms, export a month, quarter or year of invoices and credit notes as TallyPrime import files: a ledgers file, then the vouchers, with your own ledger names. Rulee does not connect to Tally over its gateway; a file the accountant imports in seconds is simpler and more reliable.
What is the Client Newsletter?
A white-labelled monthly tax and corporate-law digest in your firm’s branding. A partner reviews and approves each item, then it is emailed to your subscribed clients over your firm’s own SMTP, so it comes from your address, not ours. Included from the Plus plan.
Can I ask questions about my firm in plain words?
Yes, on Pro. Ask AI answers questions about your own firm inside rulee.in: what is overdue, who is stretched, what is ready to bill. With Connect Claude, each person can ask Claude about the firm too, and sees only what their own rulee.in permissions allow, read only or read and comment on tasks. On the dashboard, Aria also picks each person’s first three steps for the day and says why.
Can clients pay an invoice by UPI?
Yes, on Basic and above. Once your billing entity has a UPI ID, every invoice with money due carries a Scan to pay QR code: any UPI app opens with your firm as the payee and the amount still due, after part payments, TDS and credit notes. Every payment you record gets a receipt number, and a proforma becomes a tax invoice in one click.
Does rulee.in do payroll?
Yes, Part 1, on Plus, Pro and Enterprise. A monthly payroll summary worked out from the closed attendance month, payslips that open only with the employee’s PAN and go from your firm’s own email on the letterhead of the entity that employs the person, a bank transfer list, and pay for joiners and leavers counted by the days employed. It does not calculate PF, ESI, professional tax or TDS, and does not file Form 16, 24Q or the PF ECR.
Does rulee.in track where my staff are?
No. If your firm switches location on, rulee.in records where a device is only at the moment someone presses Check in or Check out, and at no other time. It is off until an Admin turns it on.
Is my client data safe?
Yes. All data is stored on AWS Mumbai (ap-south-1); the only thing that leaves India is text you send to Aria or to an AI feature on Pro, which is processed to answer you, then discarded, and never used for training. TLS 1.3 in transit, AES-256 at rest, row-level database security between organisations, and plan and permission rules enforced in the database, not only on screen. Passwords in the credential vault are encrypted before they leave your browser.
Does Rulee keep client documents or the letters I draft?
No. A PAN card or certificate given to the AI on Pro is read once to fill in the client details and is not stored. Letters and engagement letters are downloaded as Word or PDF and never saved; you file them in your own records. What Rulee does not hold cannot leak.
How does the Fees review judge a fee against the work?
From what is already in Rulee: the fees billed to each client in a financial year and the hours your team logged on their work. It divides one by the other and sets the result against your own rate an hour, which you type once. For a client below it, it suggests the fee that covers the hours, rounded up to the next 5,000, and drafts a fee revision letter with the reasons. Your rate is never printed. Clients with fewer than 10 hours logged are not judged. It needs invoicing, so Basic and above.
Does it handle GST invoicing correctly?
Yes. Invoices are raised from finished tasks: the description and SAC come from the task type, CGST and SGST or IGST from the client’s GSTIN state, LUT / SEZ zero-rating is supported, and numbers run in your own series that rolls over every 1 April. Record payments with the TDS the client deducted and the invoice settles itself; the TDS report matches 26AS, and GSTR-1 is prepared from the invoices, checked against GSTN’s rules, as the file the portal takes directly (or sent and filed from Rulee on Pro). Included from the Basic plan.
Can I migrate from spreadsheets?
Yes. Import clients from Excel / CSV, from a Tally XML export or straight from Zoho Books; import tasks and team members from CSV. Set each client’s services once and the compliance calendar fills itself. Most firms are set up within a day, and support helps with migration at no extra cost.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Nothing is deleted. Cancel to Free from Settings, Subscription: the auto-debit mandate is cancelled at once, paid access continues to the end of the period already paid for, and the account then moves to Free with everything you created still readable and exportable. Export your data (tasks, clients, time logs and invoices in one workbook) any time. Closing the account entirely is by email from the registered admin address; data is deleted from our active systems within 30 days and from backup snapshots within a further 7 days.
Are the prices shown including GST?
No. All prices shown on the website are base rates. GST (18%) is applicable and will be charged in addition. So ₹899/month base becomes ₹1,060.82/month after GST.
